Public Health Team Sends Simpson off as a Colonel

BAGHDAD—During her last week with the public health team, Lt. Colonel Diane Simpson was promoted to the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves.

The CPA-MOH contingent held a promotion ceremony at the former military Parade grounds. Colonel Simpson has been in Iraq since March and will out-process from her deployment and return to her work with the U.S. Centers For Disease Control in Atlanta. Simpson was an integral member of the Public Health team. Her efforts and accomplishments included: infection and vector control programs, disease surveillance, and infant and maternal immunizations. She was instrumental in re-establishing the Iraqi National Vaccination Days on the 22nd of each month which have helped immunize the country’s 4.2 million children under the age of five against preventable diseases such as polio, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, measles and tuberculosis.
